The Assistant Dean is responsible to the Dean, University of Tennessee Extension.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership to the agriculture, natural resources and resource development agents, specialists

and programs.

  • Working closely with department heads, regional directors, regional agriculture program leaders and

faculty for planning, developing, implementing and evaluating Extension programs in agriculture,

natural resources and resource development.

  • Providing leadership for faculty development including in-service training, professional improvement and effective teaching.
  • Providing leadership for obtaining extramural funding including grants, contracts, and gifts to support
  • Extension educational programs.
  • Coordinating, developing and maintaining effective working relationships with other university departments and external organizations, state and federal agencies and commodity groups.
  • Cooperating with the Associate Dean of Family and Consumer Sciences and State 4-H Youth Director on program efforts.
  • Assisting the Dean of UT Extension in other tasks that may be assigned.
  • Supporting and administering the policies of the University of Tennessee for equity and fairness, Equal Employment Opportunities, Affirmative Action, and fostering diversity initiatives in UT Extension.
  • Coordinating UT Extension agriculture, natural resources and resource development programs with Tennessee State University.
  • Provide leadership for a program of activities that meets the needs of eligible clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, religion or veteran status.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Earned doctorate in agricultural sciences or natural resources, or closely related field of study.
  • Work experience which has demonstrated communication, public relation, management and decision-making skills necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Demonstrated leadership and administrative capabilities for the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Demonstrated success in grant and contract efforts.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to equal employment opportunity, affirmative action, and diversity.
  • Experience or previous employment with Cooperative Extension Service is preferred.
  • Preference will be given to applicants that hold a PhD in agricultural sciences or natural resources and have qualifications for rank of full professor with tenure.
