Responsibilities:
Administration: The incumbent will hold the title, Director, University of Missouri, Center for Agroforestry. This Center, located in the School of Natural Resources, employs 17 scientists and staff, provides financial support to numerous scientists throughout various disciplines, and is widely recognized for its excellence. The Center IS provided office and laboratory space by the University but is dependent upon extramural funding for operating dollars. It is the responsibility of the Director to provide leadership in the procurement of funding and in guiding the Center's research efforts.
Research: The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally-recognized extramurally funded agroforestry research program in his/her specialized field. The Center's research program is supported by a 660-acre research farm consisting primarily of Missouri River hills but having more than 250 acres of floodplain to support diverse research efforts. This farm (The Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Center (HARC), contains sophisticated outdoor shade and flood tolerance laboratories, and is scheduled to have a $3M Learning Center with offices and a 300-person auditorium completed by late spring. 2009. Research relating to aII temperate-zone agroforestry practices is represented.
Teaching: Responsibilities for this position include teaching or co-teaching an upper level undergraduate introductory course in agroforestry and developing a graduate level course in an area of agroforestry related to the successful candidate's expertise.
Qualifications:
A Ph.D. is required, with at least one degree in forestry or a related area. Administrative experience is highly desirable along with demonstrated leadership abilities. The successful candidate should have national recognition as an agroforestry scientist.
