Don ’t Move Firewood Web Site Goes Live
The role of firewood movement in the spread of invasive forest pests is a
problem that cannot be solved without a widespread change in public
behavior, and the Northeastern Area has been actively promoting and
supporting efforts to accomplish this.
On July 3, just in time for the Fourth of July holiday weekend, the web
site went live to the public. The Web site is an initiative of the
Continental Dialogue on Non-Native Forest Insects and Diseases, a project
of the Nature Conservancy and many partners from a broad spectrum of
organizations, private industry and government.
Northeastern Area is providing financial assistance to the Continental
Dialogue to help further develop and market the site.
Don’tMoveFirewood.org is making special outreach efforts to youth and young adults by targeting social networking Web sites such as My Space and
Facebook with videos and other multimedia creations that are both
entertaining and educational and will bring home the ”Don’t Move Firewood”
message to that crucial demographic.
